Rack space rental at data centers: FPT, Viettel, VNPT, CMC

Renting a rack in a data center is a form of colocation service: businesses place their own servers, storage, and network equipment into standard 19-inch racks within a data center, rather than operating an on-site server room at their own offices. DataOnline provides full-rack colocation space at facilities operated by FPT, Viettel IDC, VNPT, and CMC in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, including backup power, Internet connectivity, security, and 24/7 technical support.
Customers are responsible for providing the hardware and data. DataOnline supplies the rack space, power, cooling, network connectivity, and “smart hands” services for on-site operations. To receive a quote based on actual space availability, please provide details regarding the number of servers, the rack unit (U) size for each server, power requirements, and your preferred data center location.

What Is Data Center Rack Rental?

Rack rental, also known as full rack colocation, allows you to place your own servers in an Internet Data Center (IDC). The provider does not supply the servers. You own the hardware, install and manage the operating system and applications, and take responsibility for the hardware lifecycle. This gives you full operational control and reduces the risk of interference with other customers’ servers.

Rack space is measured in U, with 1U equal to 44.45 mm in height. Common rack sizes in Vietnamese data centers are 42U and 47U, with a standard 19-inch width, compatible with rackmount servers, switches, firewalls, and storage from Dell, HPE, Lenovo, and other brands. A full 42U rack typically accommodates around 15 to 24 servers, depending on server depth, TDP, power consumption, and the data center’s cooling policies.

This model is ideal for businesses that already own physical servers and need full control over their hardware, configurations, and data, or must meet internal requirements regarding system location. If you do not have physical servers and need to deploy services quickly, dedicated servers or Cloud VPS are faster options without the upfront CAPEX investment.

Which Data Centers Does DataOnline Offer Rack Space In?

DataOnline has rack capacity across multiple IDCs, allowing you to choose the data center that best fits your requirements. Additional services such as Anti-DDoS, extra IPs, and multi-ISP Internet connectivity are also available.

Rack availability varies by location and time. Pricing is based on actual available rack space and does not guarantee that every package is available at every facility at all times.

FPT Rack Colocation

FPT facilities commonly include locations in Cau Giay (Hanoi) and Tan Thuan (Ho Chi Minh City). Suitable for systems, users, and partners operating on the FPT network that require low latency to FPT Telecom customers. Tier III infrastructure, redundant power, and IXP connectivity are available.

Viettel IDC Rack Colocation

Viettel IDC operates facilities in Phap Van and Hoa Lac (Hanoi) as well as locations in Southern Vietnam. Suitable for systems requiring Viettel network coverage, strict security policies, and carrier-level Anti-DDoS protection. Ideal for enterprise applications, public services, and 24/7 infrastructure.

VNPT Rack Colocation

VNPT Data operates facilities including Nam Thang Long and Nguyen Phong Sac (Hanoi), as well as Tan Thuan and other locations in Ho Chi Minh City. Its extensive backbone is suitable for government agencies, telecom operators, and systems requiring high domestic traffic capacity. Offline rack options are also available for customers using their own private connectivity.

CMC Rack Colocation

CMC facilities, including Tan Thuan (Ho Chi Minh City) and affiliated data centers, are suitable for enterprises requiring multi-direction connectivity, an enterprise-grade environment, and the ability to scale across multiple racks or dedicated areas. This is also a good option for businesses looking to avoid dependence on a single core ISP.

Which Data Centers Does DataOnline Offer Rack Space In

Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City?

Choose a location close to your users and operations team to reduce latency and data center access costs. For nationwide systems, consider placing the primary node in one region and the DR node in the other.

DataOnline can help select the right data center based on user locations, peering, and data center access requirements.

Rack Rental Packages

All data centers support C13-C14 and C19-C20 power cables.

Rack Rental Packages

Half Rack Rental (20U / 21U)

Suitable for medium-sized IT systems such as websites, databases, Active Directory, and backup storage. Typically includes around 3 kW of power. Rental terms may require a commitment to upgrade to a full rack or share the rack with another customer.

Full Rack Rental (42U / 47U)

Ideal for core systems, multiple servers, storage, and core switches. Power capacity typically ranges from 5 kW to 8 kW, depending on the data center. Additional power is charged per W or kW. Full racks provide easier cable management, dedicated PDU installation, and convenient expansion.

Multiple Racks, Cage, or Dedicated Area

Designed for large-scale deployments requiring multiple racks, private cages, security audits, or compliance requirements, including banks, fintech companies, and government organizations. Site surveys cover floor space, power, cooling, and access routes. Pricing is customized based on deployment size and compliance requirements.

What Is Included in Rack Rental Pricing?

Rack rental pricing is not simply the cost of “a rack.” A complete rack rental quote typically includes:

  • Rack space by U or a full rack
  • Power capacity (W or kW), typically with A+B power feeds
  • 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps network port
  • Domestic and international bandwidth, or unmetered bandwidth depending on the data center
  • Static IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, if required
  • Initial setup fees: equipment receiving, rack mounting, and initial cabling
  • Monthly Smart Hands allowance
  • Physical security, access control, CCTV, and data center environment

Common additional charges include extra U, additional 50W–100W power capacity, extra IPs, bandwidth upgrades, advanced Anti-DDoS protection, BGP, cross-connects between racks or data centers, remote KVM, and OS management services.

Full 42U rack rental typically starts from around VND 20 million/month, depending on power, IPs, online or offline connectivity, and the location in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. DataOnline provides pricing based on the exact configuration and available rack space at each data center rather than applying a single fixed price across all locations.

Online Rack vs. Offline Rack

Online Rack includes Internet connectivity from the data center or on-site carrier, with IPs, bandwidth, and network ports ready to use.

Offline Rack is primarily available for customers renting 2 or more racks. Bandwidth is contracted separately, and customers manage the network connection between their racks.

How Is Excess Power Charged?

Power billing varies by data center and may be based on either the rated power capacity shown on the equipment label or actual power consumption. Additional power is available from 1 kW, in 1 kW increments.

Server Deployment Process

  1. Assessment: Confirm U space, server depth, TDP, network ports, preferred data center, and city.
  2. Quotation & Reservation: Confirm pricing, reserve rack space, and schedule equipment delivery.
  3. Delivery: Ship equipment to the data center or have DataOnline receive it on your behalf.
  4. Installation: Rack-mount the server, connect A+B power, patch the network, and label equipment.
  5. Handover: Assign IPs, verify iDRAC, iLO, or IPMI, and provide remote access.
  6. Operation: For reboots, cable reseating, drive replacement, or ISO mounting, submit a Smart Hands ticket.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rack Rental

Rack rental means renting rack space or a full rack in a data center to host your own servers and network equipment. The data center provides power, cooling, Internet connectivity, and physical security, while you retain full ownership and control of your hardware.

Absolutely. We confirm your requirements, provide a quotation, receive the equipment according to your inventory list, rack-mount the servers, and deploy everything based on your network topology.

Most deployments can be completed within 1–2 business days, and installation and deployment are free in most cases.

Rack rental: Bring and use your own equipment.
Server rental: Use DataOnline’s servers without purchasing hardware.
Need full hardware ownership and control? Choose colocation.
Need to deploy quickly without a server? Choose server rental.

Available at FPT, Viettel IDC, VNPT, and CMC data centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The specific data center will be quoted based on available rack space and the network connectivity selected by the customer.

Both. Base pricing is calculated by U or by rack, with a defined power capacity. Additional power is charged separately if the limit is exceeded. Bandwidth and IPs are quoted separately.

Yes. These are among the data centers where DataOnline has rack capacity. Choose based on user location, peering, and security requirements; you are not limited to a single provider.

Online includes Internet connectivity and IPs from the data center. Offline mainly provides rack space and power, while the customer arranges their own network connection. Customers with existing private connectivity typically choose offline rack.

When rack space is available and the equipment is already at the data center, installation and IP assignment typically take 1–2 business days. Additional time may be required for inter-regional shipping, data center access registration, or requesting additional power and IPs.

DataOnline offers rack rental at FPT, Viettel, VNPT, and CMC data centers, from 1U to full racks, allowing businesses to colocate their existing servers in a Tier III data center environment instead of maintaining their own server room. Send us your required U space, power capacity, preferred data center, and city to receive a quote based on available rack space and equipment deployment schedule.
